The Red Centre, Northern Territory, Central Australia
Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park is inscribed on the World Heritage List for both its natural and cultural values. The famous "Rock", Australia's most recognisable natural icon, stands 348m high and is located 440kms south-west of Alice Springs. 40kms to the west of Uluru is Kata Tjuta/The Olgas, massive rock domes dating back 500 million years. Watarrka National Park, encompassing Kings Canyon with its 300-metre-high sandstone walls, walking trails, palm-filled crevices and views across the desert, lies 300kms to the north-east of Uluru.
